Neurčitý člen A / AN

A = před souhláskou

AN = před samohláskou

Kdy použít A/AN:

  • Poprvé o něčem mluvíme: I saw a cat.
  • Při určení povolání: She is a doctor.

Kdy použít THE:

  • Už víme, o čem mluvíme: I bought a book. The book is great.
  • Jedinečné věci: the sun, the moon, the Earth
  • Superlativy: the best, the most expensive
  • Hudební nástroje: play the piano
  • Řeky, moře, oceány: the Thames, the Mediterranean
  • Pohoří (množné číslo): the Alps, the Himalayas
  • Hotely, kina, divadla: the Hilton, the cinema

Bez členu (Zero Article)

Kdy členy nepoužíváme:

  • Obecná tvrzení v množném čísle: Dogs are loyal.
  • Nepočitatelná podstatná jména obecně: I love music.
  • Jména lidí a měst: Prague, John
  • Hory (jednotné číslo): Mount Everest
  • Kontinenty a země: Europe, Italy (výjimky: the UK, the USA)
  • Jídla jako rutina: have breakfast, have lunch
  • Ustálená spojení: go to work/school/bed, by bus/car

Tip: Členy jsou často záležitostí citu a kontextu. Čtěte hodně anglicky a všímejte si, jak jsou členy používány!
